Netbook Computer?

No, our spell checker did not fail us. We meant "netbook", not "notebook". These computers are really tiny, and it takes a while to get over the amazement of just how small they are are. It's almost toy-like, but when you boot it up and it runs full-blown Windows XP, you realize this is a real machine!

If you haven't yet been lucky enough to land one of these gems as a gift, now is probably the time to go ahead and treat yourself to one. Wow! These things really pack quite a bit of power into such a small form factor. It's truly amazing. And the price? Equally amazing.

So we couldn't resist the urge to get our grubby little hands onto one of these technological wonders. We went with ASUS, but there are a host of other choices. Ours is a Eee PC 1000HA with a 10-inch screen (surprisingly brilliant), 1.6GHz Intel Atom Processor, 1GB RAM (we bumped it up to 2GB for about $20 without voiding our warranty - nice touch ASUS!), 160GB hard drive, built in Wi-Fi, 1.3-megapixel webcam, high density 7 hour battery (we get about 5 but it depends on what you're doing), USB ports, etc. etc. To top it off, it came pre-loaded with Windows XP (you can also get it with Linux if you're the adventuresome type). And the price? We picked ours up for less than $350! Not bad, eh? And by the way, with 2GB of RAM (worth the extra cost), this machine runs Windows 7 beautifully!

Now don't get me wrong. It does have its limitations. If you're an avid gamer, don't even think about bringing this to your next LAN party. It's not intended to be used for high-end graphics or high-end processing applications. They don't even come with an internal CD or DVD drive! That said, most if not all of your daily computing chores will be handled just fine by this tiny little PC.

And last but not least, you'll want to treat this puppy like a real machine and make sure you have a way to back up your files. You will no doubt load it with videos, pictures, recipes, documents, etc. as you show it off to your friends and you start to realize that in many situations, this can be your primary machine. It's great to take on vacations when you want to shed a few pounds by leaving your notebook at home.

So do yourself a favor and go pick up one of these tiny PCs. You'll be glad you did. And because we love these things so much and we want to make sure your experience is as worry-free as possible, send us a pic of you and your new netbook (okay, just your netbook if you insist), and we'll give you 25% off any Home Edition online backup account*. Welcome to the VIPBackup Blog!

It seems everyone has a blog these days, so we felt we would be remiss if we didn't have one as well. You never know what you might find here, but chances are it will be related to Remote Backup in one way, shape, or form.

That said, we'll try to keep it relevant, interesting, and sometimes even entertaining - so stay tuned, and thanks for reading!
